Assistant Research Scientist
Biography

I am a research scientist at the University of Iowa, originally trained as a single-unit neurophysiologist with expertise in tinnitus. My early research at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research focused on single unit recordings made from the auditory brainstem and inferior colliculus following tinnitus induction. At the University of Iowa, I work with intracranially-implanted research patients and specialize in optimizing our intracranial recordings to record and isolate a high yield of activity from single neurons in the human brain. I am interested in furthering our understanding of basic neuroscience and translating this into benefits for different groups of patients, utilizing the latest tools in intracranial ECoG, behavioural neuroscience, PET and source-localized EEG. In the case of misophonia, I am focused on determining the neural bases of the condition and understanding it from a novel social cognitive perspective, to develop effective treatment strategies. In my spare time, I am a musician (piano, guitar, singing), and enjoy playing games with my son and kayaking.
